The Dragon Balls are now inert because Piccolo is dead. The heroes learn that Piccolo came from Namek, the original home of the Dragon Balls. Using Kami’s old ship, Gohan, Krillin, and the newly revived (but amnesiac) Vegeta’s ally, Bulma, journey to Namek to wish their friends back.

When Goku refuses to join him, Raditz kidnaps Gohan. Forced into an uneasy alliance, Goku teams with his former enemy, Piccolo, to rescue his son. In a desperate battle, Goku sacrifices himself to hold Raditz while Piccolo lands a fatal blow. With his last breath, Raditz warns that two even stronger Saiyans — Vegeta and Nappa — will arrive in one year.

Goku’s golden hair blazes. His power terrifies Frieza. Their battle shatters the planet. Goku, seeing Frieza’s pathetic, begging nature, gives him some energy to escape. But Frieza attacks Goku with a sneak blast. Enraged, Goku destroys Frieza completely. Namek explodes. Goku is presumed dead, but he escapes in a Frieza Force pod. Goku makes the ultimate sacrifice. He teleports exploding Cell to King Kai’s planet, dying again. But Cell regenerates, now “Super Perfect Cell” — stronger than ever. He fires a solar-killing blast at Gohan. Vegeta, finally shedding his pride, distracts Cell. Gohan, with Goku’s voice guiding him from the afterlife, unleashes a that disintegrates Cell forever.
